The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reports 1,804,873 tourist arrivals so far this year, nearing the 2024 target of 2.3 million. In November alone, 184,158 tourists visited the country, with the highest arrivals from India (41,120) followed by Russia (29,053).

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s (CBSL) economic indicator report revealed that Tourism earnings for November 2024 reached USD 272.9 million, a notable increase compared to USD 205.3 million in November 2023. Cumulatively, tourism earnings from January to November 2024 have hit USD 2.8 billion, marking a 56% rise from last year’s USD 1.7 billion for the same period.

Meanwhile, foreign remittances from migrant workers in November amounted to USD 530.1 million, surpassing the October figure of USD 517.4 million. Total remittances from January to November 2024 stand at USD 5.96 billion, reflecting a 10.4% year-on-year growth compared to USD 5.39 billion in last year.
