The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development has announced that daily coconut sales at Sathosa outlets will increase to 200,000 from tomorrow (December 9).
Coconuts will be sourced from government-owned plantations and sold at Rs. 130 each, with a focus on urban areas, including Colombo. Currently, Sathosa distributes about 100,000 coconuts daily.
Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that the disruptions in coconut production caused by recent heavy rains have now subsided, and he is optimistic that the supply shortages will soon be resolved.
This measure aims to stabilize coconut prices and ensure affordability for urban consumers.
