The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced special inspections at rice mills in the Polonnaruwa area today (December 8).
These inspections aim to gather detailed information on daily rice production, current stock levels, and the quantity of rice released to the market.
A CAA spokesperson confirmed that the initiative is part of a broader plan to monitor rice production nationwide. Following President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s instructions, the CAA will collect data from all rice mills across the country to ensure transparency and compliance.
During a meeting with rice traders yesterday (December 7), President Dissanayake set new maximum retail and wholesale price limits for various types of rice. Starting today, CAA officers have been deployed to closely monitor rice mills and enforce these price limits. Strict legal action will be taken against mill owners who fail to comply.
This move is part of the government’s effort to stabilize rice prices and protect consumer interests.
