The high-level US delegation led by Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, met with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Colombo yesterday (December 6).

The discussions focused on critical social, economic, and political challenges facing the country.

The delegation included prominent officials such as Deputy Treasury Secretary Robert Kaproth and US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung. Representatives from USAID, including Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Asia Region, also participated, alongside Versa Perkins, Chief of Staff to Donald Lu, and Gabriel Grau, USAID Sri Lanka Mission Director, Nasreen Marikar, Political Specialist at the US Embassy,  and Jerrod Mason, Treasury Director for South Asia.

Several key figures from the Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Samagi Jana Sandhanaya, including Kabir Hashim, Rishad Bathiudeen, Palani Digambaram, and Ajith P. Perera, Mujibur Rahuman, Kavinda Jayawardana, and S.M. Marikar.were also present. The discussions aimed to explore solutions to Sri Lanka’s pressing economic and governance issues.
