Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stressed the importance of research and development in reshaping Sri Lanka's future, during her address at the Digital Library Conference 2024, organized by the National Science Foundation held at the Colombo Medical College yesterday (December 6).

Highlighting the government’s development agenda, the Prime Minister stated, “Investment in research and development is critical. Our aim is to redirect the country onto a new path based on research, evidence, and data, moving away from practices of the past 75 years.”

She noted that decision-making in recent years often lacked scientific backing and called for closer collaboration between policymakers and researchers to ensure governance is guided by evidence.

The conference, organized by the National Science Foundation, was attended by its Chairman, Professor Saman Seneweera, Director General Dr. Sepalika Sudasinghe, Head of the National Science Library Resource Center Manjula Karunaratne, and a gathering of researchers, librarians, and scholars.
