The Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon has arranged the evacuation of 55 vulnerable Sri Lankan workers due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The operation is being conducted in collaboration with the International Organization of Migration (IOM).

The latest group of 26 Sri Lankans was repatriated to Colombo last evening (December 4). The Embassy expressed gratitude to the IOM for its continued support and emphasized its commitment to assisting Sri Lankans affected by the conflict in Lebanon.

The crisis stems from Israel’s warning that it could resume hostilities if the ceasefire with Hezbollah collapses. Israeli forces have continued strikes in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah fighters they accuse of violating the truce agreement, which required militants to withdraw north of the Litani River. Israel has also stated that future actions could hold the Lebanese state responsible for any violations.

Despite the challenging situation, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon aims to ensure the safety of its nationals through ongoing repatriation efforts.
