Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte and his wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte, were granted bail today (December 5) by the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court.
The couple had been in custody over allegations of using a luxury car illegally imported and assembled in Sri Lanka.
The luxury vehicle, which lacked proper number plates, was discovered during a police inspection at a three-story house in Mirihana’s Embuldeniya area. The property belongs to Shashi Prabha Ratwatte. Police began the investigation after police headquarters had received information about the vehicle.
During questioning, the couple explained that the house is occupied by Lohan Ratwatte’s mother-in-law and claimed that the vehicle was brought there by Ratwatte’s private secretary. This individual was recently found dead from gunshot injuries in Katugastota, Kandy.
