The Excise Department has announced that the liquor manufacturing license of W.M. Mendis & Co. Limited will be suspended effective tomorrow, December 5, due to the company's failure to settle outstanding excise taxes and surcharges amounting to Rs. 5.7 billion.

In accordance with the Excise Ordinance Act, the Commissioner General of Excise issued an order to suspend the company's license following repeated non-payment of the required dues.

The department has confirmed that the liquor manufacturing process will cease from tomorrow, and additional measures are in place to prevent the renewal of other licenses issued to the company starting from December 31, unless the tax arrears and surcharges are cleared.

This action reflects the department's firm stance on ensuring compliance with tax regulations and addressing the growing concerns over unpaid excise duties.
