The Attorney General (AG) has informed the Court of Appeal that the National Procurement Commission (NPC) is investigating how the previous government awarded the tender for purchasing 5 million electronic passports for Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.
This update was provided by Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, during a court session on yesterday (December 3).
The case, filed by Epic Lanka Private Limited, challenges the decision to buy 750,000 normal passports and 5 million e-passports from two foreign firms.
Dharmawardena stated that the NPC has requested one week to submit its findings and asked the court for a date to report the progress of the investigation.
President’s Counsel K. Kanageeswaran, representing some of the defendant companies, requested a hearing to review the lifting of the injunction that currently prevents the passport purchase.
The Court of Appeal has scheduled the next hearing for January 23, 2025.
