The Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo has officially been designated as the Faculty of Journalism. This decision, announced through a gazette notice issued by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who also serves as the Minister of Education, marks a transformative step in the academic landscape of the country.

With this new designation, the Sri Palee Campus will now house four key departments that play a crucial role in shaping the future of journalism and related fields. These departments include:

1. Department of Mass Media

2. Department of Language Studies

3. Department of Computer Studies

4. Department of Performing Arts

The gazette notice solidifies the university’s commitment to enhancing the study and practice of journalism, while fostering a multidisciplinary approach through the inclusion of departments related to technology, language, and the arts.

This move is expected to provide students with a more comprehensive and dynamic education in the ever-evolving media landscape, helping them to develop the skills necessary for success in both traditional and digital media environments.

The decision has been widely praised for its potential to uplift the standards of journalism education in Sri Lanka, and it is hoped that the new faculty will play an essential role in cultivating skilled professionals who can contribute to the growth of the country's media industry.
