Jaffna District Independent MP Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan alleged that he was assaulted today (December 3) inside the premises of the Opposition Leader Office at the Parliament Complex.
Speaking during the parliamentary session, Dr. Ramanathan stated that an individual named ‘Sujith’ was responsible for the attack.
In his statement to Parliament, Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan shared that he went to the Opposition Leader’s Office around 2:30 PM today, to inquire about his allocated speaking time. He explained that no information had been given to him earlier, so he asked if he would have time tomorrow (December 4).
Officials at the office then escorted him to another room and informed him that he could be allocated time at 4:00 PM tomorrow ( December 4). When Dr. Archchuna questioned the authority behind these decisions, he was told to speak with a person named ‘Sujith’ and another individual who were responsible for making such decisions.
Dr. Archchuna added that, when he objected to the lack of clarity and stated that such decisions shouldn’t be made unilaterally, ‘Sujith’ assaulted him. He clarified that he did not retaliate, as ‘Sujith’ was of a similar age to his father.
