Cabinet Approves ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Initiative
The ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Fund, a transformative program proposed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This initiative aims to make Sri Lanka the cleanest country in Asia while addressing pressing economic, social, and environmental challenges.
Speaking at the Cabinet briefing today (December 3), Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa highlighted that the program is part of the government’s vision for “A Prosperous Country, a Beautiful Life”. It seeks to achieve social, environmental, and ethical progress, fostering national well-being and reconciliation.
The proposal includes implementing the program through the Presidential Secretariat and forming a Presidential Task Force to manage its operations. Additionally, the Clean Sri Lanka Fund will be set up under the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, overseen by a Board of Governors to ensure adequate funding for its goals.
According to Minister Jayatissa, the initiative comes at a critical time as the nation faces significant economic and environmental challenges. The program is envisioned as a national mission to inspire progress, sustainability, and ethical responsibility, contributing to Sri Lanka’s long-term development.
The government hopes this initiative will position Sri Lanka as a leader in economical and environmental sustainability in the region, demonstrating its commitment to a cleaner and more prosperous future.
