Private Sector Allowed to Import Rice, says Government

The decision was made during yesterday’s (December 2) Cabinet meeting, where all ministers agreed to allow private companies to bring in rice stocks. 

Dr. Jayathissa stated that the private sector would act promptly to ensure an adequate supply of rice in the country.

Additionally, he confirmed that any type of rice could be imported under this arrangement, aiming to meet local demand effectively.
