US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, will visit Sri Lanka on December 5, 2024, as part of his South Asia tour, which also includes India and Nepal.

The US State Department stated that the visit aims to strengthen regional cooperation, promote prosperity, and enhance security partnerships. In Colombo, Assistant Secretary Lu will focus on advancing U.S.-Sri Lanka collaborations to support sustainable economic growth, combat corruption, and foster stronger people to people  ties between the two nations.

He will be joined by USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth. They are scheduled to meet Sri Lanka’s senior government officials and civil society representatives to explore ways the U.S. can support governance and economic reforms through technical assistance, capacity building, and development programs.

The visit underscores efforts to deepen ties with Sri Lanka’s new administration while supporting its reform agenda.
