Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe announced that the National People's Power (NPP) government plans to reduce electricity tariffs by over 30% within the next three years.

Speaking to reporters yesterday (December 1), the Minister said the government has proposed a five-year plan to develop renewable energy as part of its strategy. “As promised by the President, the NPP government will definitely lower electricity bills by more than 30% in the next three years,” he stated.

Additionally, Samarasinghe revealed plans to significantly reduce the prices of essential goods during the upcoming festive season, aiming to provide relief to citizens.

The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering on these promises through sustainable economic and financial initiatives.
