The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) have arrested three individuals accused of sharing content related to the banned LTTE organization, on the Maaveerar Naal commemorations period on social media. The suspects, aged 28, 35, and 45, hail from Maradana, Chunnakam, and Baddegama.
Police reports state that the suspects posted photos and videos of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on Facebook. They are also accused of circulating old footage from past Maaveerar Naal commemorations, falsely presenting it as recent content.
The individuals were arrested under charges of promoting a proscribed organization, inciting public unrest, and spreading false information, in violation of Section 120 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to taking action against activities that threaten national harmony or violate Sri Lankan laws.
