The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reports that the death toll from ongoing severe weather in Sri Lanka has risen to 17, with 20 individuals injured so far.
The adverse weather has affected 479,871 people from 142,624 families across the country. According to the DMC, 103 houses have been completely destroyed, while 2,635 have been partially damaged.
Relief efforts are underway, with 27,517 people from 8,470 families currently staying in relief centers set up for those impacted by the extreme weather conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected communities.
A total of 3,183 personnel from the tri-forces and police have been mobilized to respond to disaster situations across Sri Lanka. This includes 2,080 officers from the Sri Lanka Army, 520 from the Navy, 540 from the Air Force, and 43 from the Police.
