Health officials have raised concerns about a higher risk of infectious diseases, including viral fever, due to ongoing heavy rain across Sri Lanka.

Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. G. Wijesuriya, advised the public to prioritize safety when purchasing and consuming food and drinks to avoid illnesses.

In response to the situation, a dengue control program has been launched in flood-affected areas of the North-Eastern Province.

Lahiru Kodithuwakku, a community consultant at the National Dengue Control Unit, urged residents to eliminate stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.

Sri Lanka has recorded 45,448 dengue cases so far this year, with 19,487 cases reported in the Western Province. Additionally, 22 dengue-related deaths have been confirmed.
