The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit at Negombo Police Station on bribery charges.

The officer is accused of demanding an air conditioner worth Rs. 270,000 as a bribe to investigate a dispute over a car leased and to help return the vehicle through legal means.

According to CIABOC, the complainant purchased the air conditioner, and the requested amount was transferred to the account of the store manager where it was bought. Following this transaction, the OIC was apprehended on bribery allegations.

CIABOC stated the investigation is ongoing on the incident.
