Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne stated that compensation will be provided for affected crops, including paddy, maize, potatoes, soybeans, chilies, and big onions. Farmers will receive up to Rs. 40,000 per acre in compensation.
Karunaratne added that a detailed assessment of crop damage will be conducted once the weather improves. Discussions are underway to distribute free seed paddy to farmers whose seedlings were destroyed.
Vegetable and fruit farmers in both upcountry and lowland areas, who also suffered significant losses, will be offered relief measures.
