Sri Lanka's tourism industry is poised to surpass the 2 million mark in visitor arrivals by the end of 2024, with a total of 1,766,384 tourists arriving between January 1 and November 24. The period from November 1 to 24 alone saw 145,669 arrivals, reflecting a steady upward trend in tourism activity.

With daily arrivals now averaging over 6,000, Sri Lanka is on course to meet its 2 million target for the year. However, despite this growth, the country is unlikely to surpass its all-time record of 2,333,796 arrivals achieved in 2018.

The industry has been hindered by challenges such as adverse travel advisories and ongoing visa issues, which have affected the flow of international tourists.

While the tourism sector has shown resilience, industry leaders remain cautious, emphasizing the need to address these external challenges to ensure continued growth and competitiveness in the global tourism market.

As Sri Lanka looks ahead, there is optimism that overcoming these hurdles will pave the way for even greater success in the years to come.
