The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding a deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal, located approximately 110 km to the east of Trincomalee at 11:30 a.m. on November 27. The system is expected to move closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka and intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next six hours.

As a result, the country is likely to experience heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds. Cloudy skies will dominate most parts of the island, with very heavy showers expected in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Northwestern, and Central provinces.

The department has issued a "Red" advisory for these regions, urging residents to be prepared for adverse weather conditions.

The advisory highlights that showers and thundershowers will continue intermittently in the Northern, North-central, Central, Western, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Kegalle. Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather forecasts.
