The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has reported a significant rise in incidents involving explicit content being used online to intimidate individuals. According to Senior Information Security Engineer Charuka Damunupola, over 1,100 such cases have been recorded this year.
Most complaints involve threats between individuals in romantic relationships, where one party uses explicit content to harass or blackmail the other.
CERT advises victims to collect evidence, including URLs of websites where content has been posted, call records, text messages, and screenshots. Victims can file complaints with CERT, which can assist in removing the harmful content from online platforms.
CERT continues to encourage vigilance and responsible online behavior to combat cyber harassment effectively.
