The National Audit Office has issued and the Ministry in charge has received observations from a special audit draft report regarding the introduction of electronic passports in Sri Lanka.

Auditor General W.M.C. Wickramarathna announced that recommendations based on these findings will be included in a report presented to Parliament.

The audit uncovered irregularities and corruption within the e-passport implementation process, which contributed to a nationwide shortage of passports. This shortage forced people to endure long daily queues to obtain passports and relevant documents.

Additionally, the investigation examined whether proper procurement procedures were followed during the e-passport rollout.
