Six international flights scheduled to land at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake have been diverted to alternative airports due to severe weather conditions.
According to the duty manager at BIA, three flights originating from Narita, Dubai, and Chennai have been rerouted to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in India, while another three flights from Chennai, Male, and Abu Dhabi have been redirected to Mattala Airport in Sri Lanka.
The diversions, which took place due to heavy rainfall and low visibility at BIA, have caused some disruptions to the travel plans of passengers. Authorities at both airports are working to accommodate the affected passengers and ensure their safe onward travel.
The situation is being closely monitored, and passengers are advised to check with airlines for updated information regarding their flights.
