The Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal was located to southeast about 170km of Batticaloa and 240 km of Trincomalee at around 1100 am of 26th November 2024.

The system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during next 12 hours and move very closer to the east coast of the island. Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island and due to the influence of this system and very heavy showers and strong winds can be expected in Northern, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in most places of the island. Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Northern, North-central, Central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee district tomorrow.

Heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at several places elsewhere of the island.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central, Central, North-western and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal was located to southeast about 170km of Batticaloa and 240 km of Trincomalee at around 11:00 a.m. of 26th November 2024. The system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during next 12 hours and move very closer to the east coast of the island.

Naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture to the deep and shallow sea areas around the island until further notice.

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas around the island.

Winds:

Winds will be north-easterly in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (40-50) kmph and Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas around the island.  

State of Sea:

The sea areas around the island will be rough to very rough at times.

The swell waves (about 2.5–3.0 m) height (this is not for land area) may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
