The Colombo Magistrate's Court has issued an arrest warrant for newly elected Jaffna District Member of Parliament Archchuna Ramanathan after he failed to appear in court for proceedings today.

The warrant is in connection with a 2021 road accident on Baseline Road, where Ramanathan is accused of causing a collision and allegedly assaulting another motorist. The incident reportedly left the other driver with serious injuries.

Despite previous summons, Ramanathan's absence led the court to instruct the Jaffna Senior Police Authority to carry out the arrest. The case has sparked public attention as it involves both a traffic accident and an alleged assault.

Ramanathan, who was recently elected as a member of parliament, has not yet commented on the court's decision. His failure to attend the hearing raises questions about his response to the ongoing legal proceedings.
