The Colombo Magistrate's Court has issued a notice to Arjuna Mahendran the former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) to appear before the court on February 25th 2025.

The case, filed by the Bribery Commission, pertains to the controversial bond issue of 2015, which allegedly caused a loss of over Rs. 10 billion to the government of Sri Lanka.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued the order on November 26, 2024 ,after considering a request from the Bribery Commission. The case revolves around allegations of misappropriation related to the bond issue, which remains a significant point of contention in Sri Lanka's financial history.

Mahendran, who served as CBSL Governor during the period of the bond issue, has faced multiple investigations over the matter. The Bribery Commission’s case seeks to hold him accountable for his role in the transaction, which critics claim was fraught with irregularities.

The case is one of the high-profile legal battles stemming from the controversial bond sale, which continues to dominate public discourse in Sri Lanka. Mahendran’s appearance in court next year will be closely watched as it could have far-reaching implications for Sri Lanka’s political and financial landscape.
