The Department of Railways has announced significant delays in train services on the Upcountry Railway Line particularly affecting the section between Badulla and Bandarawela. The disruptions are a result of landslides and rockfalls caused by the ongoing heavy rains in the region.
Railway Services Delayed Due to Landslides and Rockfalls Between Badulla and Bandarawela
According to the Nawalapitiya Railway Control Office, the night mail train from Colombo Fort to Badulla has been halted at Nanu Oya Railway Station due to the obstruction.
Additionally, the Udarata Menike train, scheduled to depart from Badulla to Colombo Fort at 5:45 AM today (26th), has not yet begun its journey.
The Railway Department has stated that efforts are underway to clear the fallen earth, stones, and trees blocking the tracks, but it will take several more hours to restore normal operations. Passengers traveling between Badulla and Colombo Fort are advised to expect delays as the cleanup continues.
