Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa participated in the orientation program, and he shared lessons from his over two decades of experience in the legislature.
The orientation session, a tradition at the start of a new parliament, began today (November 25) at the parliamentary premises. Running from November 25 to 27 in Committee Room No. 01, the program operates daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
New MPs will receive comprehensive guidance on their roles and responsibilities, parliamentary privileges, the legislative process, the committee system, and standing orders. They will also gain insights into constitutional provisions and engage in a practical session on using the electronic voting system.
The program will further educate MPs about the laws and procedures related to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption established under the Anti-Corruption Act. Additionally, awareness sessions will cover the role of the Parliamentary Affairs Division within the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs.
The orientation aims to equip MPs with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively perform their duties in Parliament.
