The Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Department of Examinations have launched a collaborative program to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination, which is scheduled to take place from November 25 to December 20.

This initiative comes in response to weather forecasts predicting a potential low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, raising concerns about possible adverse conditions during the examination period.

The program, spearheaded by the Director General of the DMC, Major General (Retired) Udaya Herath, aims to minimize disruptions for students and officials involved in the examination. A recent awareness session held at the DMC premises included participation from officials of the Department of Examinations and other relevant institutions at the national and district levels.

A key focus of the initiative is the enhancement of the emergency response system to address challenges faced by students and examination staff. The DMC, in collaboration with the armed forces, police, and other disaster management entities, has issued detailed guidelines to support uninterrupted access to examination centers.

Emergency hotlines have been activated to provide immediate assistance during the examination period.

The DMC’s emergency hotline is 117, while additional numbers for the special emergency operations room include 0113 668 020, 0113 668 100, 0113 668 013, and 0113 668 010. Furthermore, assistance can also be obtained via 076 3 117 117, and the Department of Examinations’ hotline 1911 remains available for addressing examination-related concerns.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the A/L examinations will proceed as scheduled, with all necessary measures in place to support students.
