The strike by academic and non-academic staff, along with student unions at the University of Ruhuna, entered its fourth day today (November 22), as they demand the immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor.

The strike, which began on November 19, is supported by the University Trade Union Joint Committee (UTUJC), the Federation of University Teachers’ Trade Union Alliance, and student representatives.

The UTUJC Co-Chairman, Dhammika S. Priyantha, accused the Vice Chancellor of exerting undue pressure on staff and students, allegedly driven by personal grievances.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya recently met with union representatives to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, the Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) staged a Satyagraha outside the Ministry of Education, followed by discussions with the Ministry Secretary.

The strike continues as no resolution has been reached.
