Asoka Sapumal Ranwala Appointed New Speaker of Parliament

National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Asoka Sapumal Ranwala has been unanimously appointed as the new Speaker of Sri Lanka's Parliament. His appointment was confirmed during the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament, which commenced today at 10:00 a.m. with the participation of newly-elected legislators.
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya proposed Ranwala’s nomination, which was seconded by Minister Vijitha Herath. The motion received full support, ensuring his election to the prestigious role.
As Speaker, Ranwala will preside over the parliamentary proceedings and contribute to the shaping of the legislative agenda in Sri Lanka’s new parliamentary term.
