Four former Cabinet ministers have been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today to provide statements regarding the controversial approval of importing substandard drugs to Sri Lanka.

Prasanna Ranatunga, Harin Fernando, Ramesh Pathirana, and Roshan Ranasinghe were called in by the CID to testify in relation to the alleged importation of low-quality human immunoglobulin vials, which have raised serious concerns about public health safety.

The summons come after the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court issued an order on November 11 for 18 former Cabinet Ministers to record statements in connection with the case.

The investigation focuses on the approval granted by the Cabinet for the importation of these substandard medical supplies, which were reportedly distributed across the country.

The CID is expected to gather crucial information to determine the extent of the involvement of the ministers and any potential wrongdoing in the decision-making process.
