Former Minister Harin Fernando, arrested earlier today (November 20) by the Badulla Police for alleged election law violations, has been released on bail.
The Badulla Magistrate’s Court granted his release on two surety bails of Rs. 500,000 each.
Fernando was arrested when he arrived at the Badulla Police Station this morning to provide a statement about an incident during election campaigning in Badulla on November 11.
The incident involved a confrontation between the police and Fernando, who was campaigning with his supporters in Badulla town while wearing t-shirts displaying "number 10," his preference number for the 2024 General Election.
Fernando, representing the New Democratic Front (NDF) from the Badulla District, received 9,371 votes in the election but failed to secure a seat in Parliament.
