Mahinda Siriwardena Reassumes as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance

K. M. Mahinda Siriwardena has officially re-assumed his duties as the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development today, November 20.

Siriwardena has played a key role in securing the Extended Credit Facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was instrumental in the country’s successful debt restructuring process. He has also served as the Alternate Executive Director for Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan at the IMF.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from Vanderbilt University in the USA, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Special) in Economics from the University of Kelaniya.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Secretaries to the Treasury and Heads of Departments under the Ministry of Finance.

Siriwardena is a highly experienced senior official, having participated in numerous international training programs in areas such as macroeconomic management, fiscal programming and policy, monetary policy, central banking, and public financial management.
