The newly appointed Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, has announced plans to reform the police recruitment system to strengthen the Sri Lanka Police.

Speaking after assuming duties at the Ministry of Public Security today (November 19), Minister Wijepala emphasized the importance of a disciplined and law-abiding police force to create a fair society.

He also addressed challenges faced by junior officers and public grievances related to police services. “A law-abiding and disciplined police force is essential for a just society. We will review and reform the recruitment process to bring in qualified personnel to address crime, drug trafficking, and underworld activities effectively,” he said.

The Minister further announced plans to redeploy officers from presidential and ministerial security units to bolster the police force’s manpower.
