Prof. P.N.D. Fernando assumes duties as Chairman of People’s Bank

Prof. Fernando, who brings over 25 years of expertise in finance, banking, and higher education, takes on this important leadership role with a wealth of experience. 

He is a renowned academic, having served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya. He also holds a PhD in Government Economics from Central China Normal University.

Throughout his career, Prof. Fernando has made significant contributions to Sri Lanka’s financial sector. He has served as a consultant and resource person for several prominent institutions, including the Colombo Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.

In his first statement as Chairman, Prof. Fernando outlined his vision for People’s Bank, focusing on accelerating digital transformation, promoting customer-centric growth, and strengthening the bank’s role in supporting the nation’s evolving economic needs. 

He emphasized the importance of building a more sustainable and resilient banking network to better serve the diverse needs of the Sri Lankan population.

Under his leadership, People’s Bank is expected to continue its commitment to innovation and financial inclusion, while maintaining its strong position as a key player in Sri Lanka's banking sector.
