The Ministry of Health has launched a rapid response unit to contain the spread of measles, a disease previously eradicated in Sri Lanka in 2019. Operating from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the unit aims to address the resurgence and prevent further cases.

The public can get updates on the epidemic by calling 011-744 65 13, 011-768 27 22, 011-768 28 72, or 011-768 26 62. The Ministry also urges individuals who have not received both doses of the measles vaccine to get vaccinated promptly, as one infected person could spread the virus to up to 19 others.

Sri Lanka was certified measles-free by the World Health Organization in 2019, making this outbreak a significant public health concern.
