Air China started daily direct flights between Tianfu International Airport, Chengdu, China, and Colombo, aiming to support rising travel demand between China and Sri Lanka. The daily service, planned for the winter schedule until March 29, 2025, is part of Air China's strategy to boost international connectivity as Sri Lanka gains popularity as a year-round travel destination.

The increase in flights is expected to make travel easier for both leisure and business tourists, especially during the winter, when many travelers seek warmer destinations. Tourism operators in Sri Lanka view this additional capacity as a positive step toward increasing international arrivals, which may significantly impact local businesses and the hospitality sector.

The flights will also benefit Sri Lanka’s tourism growth strategy, which relies on tapping into diverse tourist markets, including China, where traveler interest has been steadily growing. Jetwing Air has been designated as Air China’s General Sales Agent (GSA) in Sri Lanka.

This expansion reflects Air China’s commitment to offering consistent travel options in the Asia-Pacific region and supporting countries like Sri Lanka, where tourism is a crucial economic sector.
