Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has called on the public to give the SJB a parliamentary majority instead of the National People's Power (NPP).

He criticized the NPP for failing to lessen the people's suffering as promised during the Presidential Election.

Premadasa highlighted that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who pledged to reduce various taxes during his campaign, has not fulfilled these promises. He also noted that the President's commitment to renegotiate the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had not been carried out.

"There is currently a shortage of essential foods, and people are queuing for coconuts. The president has put the country in a difficult position. He promised to repay the debt starting in 2028, but he has only four years left to do so," Premadasa stated.

He emphasized that Sri Lanka cannot afford to make debt repayments under the current economic conditions, and rapid economic growth is essential to settling loans. To achieve this, he stressed the importance of having a majority of SJB members in Parliament, warning that without this support, Sri Lanka could face bankruptcy by 2028. Premadasa made these remarks while addressing an Election rally in Kollonawa on Sunday (October 27).
