Udaya Gammanpila, leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), has urged the government to investigate a person who claimed to be a senior government official in a video by British media outlet Channel 4, which aired in September last year regarding the 2019 Easter attacks.

Speaking at a media briefing today (28 October), Gammanpila discussed findings from an investigation report led by retired Supreme Court Justice S.I. Imam, appointed by the previous government. He challenged the current government to establish a committee to identify the individual in the video who made allegations against intelligence agencies and army officers.

"If this person, posing as a high-ranking official, currently holds a significant position in the government, action must be taken against him for treason," he stated.

Gammanpila emphasized the need for the government to act on the information disclosed about the Easter attacks rather than responding with slander. This was his second media briefing regarding the reports on the attacks.

Last week, he revealed that the investigation reports by committees led by retired Justices S.I. Imam and A.N.J. de Alwis, appointed by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, had not been made public. Making his first revelation, He noted that the report by Justice de Alwis recommends action against former senior police officials Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekera, who currently occupy high-ranking government positions.

In response, Government Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath assured that a thorough investigation into the 2019 Easter attacks is underway, including the two reports mentioned by Gammanpila.
