The Department of Meteorology has released a warning for heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas in the Southern Bay of Bengal.

According to the advisory, the low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal has shifted west-northwest and is now a well-marked low-pressure area in the central south Bay of Bengal as of 5:30 AM today (October 15).

It is expected to strengthen into a depression and continue moving west-northwest towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh over the next two days, the department noted.

Additionally, strong winds between 60-70 kmph, heavy rainfall, and rough seas are likely to be experienced.

Naval and fishing communities are therefore advised to avoid these sea areas, marked as "Warning" zones, until October 17 and to monitor future updates from the Department of Meteorology.
