The Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding severe weather conditions due to a low-pressure area moving towards the coast of South Andhra Pradesh. This is expected to bring very heavy rains and strong winds, particularly in the sea areas, which are currently deemed unsafe for sailing.

The ongoing bad weather has affected approximately 154,782 individuals across 13 districts, with 39,522 families impacted. The death toll stands at three, and over 10,361 people have sought shelter. Landslide warnings are in effect for eight districts, including Colombo, Galle, and Ratnapura.

The Irrigation Department has alerted that further flooding may occur in several river basins. In response, teams from the armed forces have been deployed to assist in relief efforts, especially in the most affected areas like Kalutara and Ratnapura.

The Disaster Management Center is actively monitoring the situation and has established a hotline for emergency reports and assistance.

The center has introduced several more phone numbers to provide information. (0112136136 / 0112136222 / 0112670002
