Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath, expressed deep regret over the recent attacks that injured two Sri Lankan peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). During a meeting with the Colombo-based Diplomatic Corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this morning (October 14), Minister Herath emphasized the nation's pride in its peacekeepers who operate in challenging UN missions. He stressed the importance of respecting the obligations of all parties to safeguard UN personnel and facilities.

The Minister also voiced concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and its broader implications, particularly in Lebanon. He called for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza, advocating for a sustainable two-state solution that would establish an independent State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders while also ensuring Israel's security.
