The Ministry of Public Security has directed the Acting IGP to expedite police investigations into seven high-profile cases, including the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings and the 2015 Treasury Bond scandal. Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa stated that special attention is being given to these cases, with instructions to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assign more officers and speed up progress.
Among the cases highlighted are the suspicious death of businessman Dinesh Schaffter in 2022, the 2023 shooting of a police officer in Weligama on December 31, 2023, and the disappearance of former Eastern University Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Raveendranath in 2006. Investigations into the murder of journalist Taraki Shivaram, also known as Dharmaratnam Shivaram, on April 28, 2005, and the disappearance of activists in Jaffna on December 9, 2011, are also being prioritized.
