Former SSP Shani Abeysekera's Reappointment approved by the Police Commission

The National Police Commission has approved the reappointment of former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekera on a one-year contract, with effect from today (10th October).

Abeysekera, who retired three years ago, is expected to lead a new assets recovery unit within the Police Department.

Shani Abeysekera was known for investigating high-profile criminal cases as the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). His notable investigations include the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, the disappearance of 11 youths in Colombo, the killings of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, and the Rathupaswala shooting. He also played a key role in solving major cases like the Royal Park murder, Udathalawinna massacre, killing of Mohamed Siyam and many other major cases.
