Senior Professor Hareendra Dissabandara Appointed SEC Chairman

This appointment marks a significant return for Dissabandara, who previously served as the SEC’s Director General from 2012 to 2013 and held leadership roles in the Financial Services Academy and the Capital Market Education and Training Division from 2008 to 2012.

Dissabandara is a prominent figure in the field of finance and corporate governance, currently serving as a Senior Professor in the Department of Finance at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He holds a B.Sc. in Management Special Degree and an M.Sc. in Management (Finance) from the same institution, and he earned his Ph.D. in Finance in Japan under the prestigious MONBUSHO scholarship in 2006.

He succeeds Faizal Salieh, who had been appointed to the role in February 2023 by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Dissabandara's extensive experience and academic background are expected to provide strong leadership as the SEC navigates the evolving landscape of Sri Lanka’s capital markets.
