The Ministry of Defense has instructed Members of Parliament to return the repeater firearms issued for their personal security. This decision, made under Sections 6(1) and 6(2) of the Firearms Ordinance Act No. 33 of 1916, will temporarily reclaim all firearms issued. Further, this decision is taken and subjected to reissue after a review process.

License holders must hand over their firearms and ammunition to the Commercial Explosive Firearms and Ammunition Procurement Unit (CEFAP) at the Sri Lanka Navy camp in Welisara before November 7, 2024. Failure to comply will result in legal action.

The Ministry also revealed that 1,690 firearms were issued for the protection of 1,500 individuals.
