The Inland Revenue Department has successfully collected Rs. 1,417 billion in taxes up till September 30, 2024, achieving over 70% of its annual revenue target of Rs. 2,024 billion.
Commissioner General of the Department of Inland Revenue Sepalika Chandrasekara commended the progress but highlighted that some taxpayers under the self-assessment system still owe taxes. Starting today (October 6), the IRD will visit these taxpayers' premises to ensure prompt payment.
Chandrasekara warned that legal procedures will be enforced to recover unpaid self-assessment taxes moving forward.
